Moving is the Pits

One of these days I am going to learn to hire a moving company to get my stuff moved from Point A to Point B. This was not one of those days.

I rented a U-Haul 26 foot truck and started loading it about 3:30 this afternoon. At about 7, I hadn't made much progress. Thankfully, my father and my brother-in-law showed up and helped load while my mother and my sister helped my wife get more stuff packed up. We got the truck loaded about 9:15, but we can't get into the new house until the morning because we gave the sellers a day to get the rest of their stuff out. The rest of our stuff is going to require at least one more load of that truck.

I am dead tired, but I'm just not sleepy, yet.

Those 26-footers are deisgned for moving a 4+ bedroom house, and you filled it up? Impressive!

I wish that I lived down there to help you. Having moved about 4 times in the past ten years, plus helping another brother move three times within that time frame, I have gotten very good at the moving gig. Plus, it is a fun spatial skills test to load the truck just right that you do not waste any space, yet nothing gets damaged.

I do like being able to get the truck the night before the actual moving day, so that you can get most of its packed (boxes, appliances that you can dolly, etc) that do not require anyone's help.

I hope that the entire move went well, and congrats on the new house.

This should read:

"I do like being able to get the truck the night before the actual moving day, so that you can get some of it packed with things that do not require another person to help move (boxes, appliances that you can dolly, etc). Then you can move in the furniture first thing with the help, and get moving."
